Indians and Pakistanis call it sifarish. Persians call it parti bazi. Turks call it torpil. Israelis call it protektsia. Russians and Eastern Europeans call it blat. Koreans call it inmaek. Vietnamese call it quan he. Malaysians and Indonesians call it kenalan.

Tinatawag itong sifarish ng mga Indian at Pakistani. Parti bazi sa mga Persian. Torpil sa mga Turko. Protektsia sa mga Israeli. Blat sa mga Russian at Eastern European. Inmaek sa mga Koreano. Quan he sa mga Vietnamese. Kenalan sa mga Malay at Indones.

Italians call it fiducia. Germans joke about it as Vitamin B. Americans call it the old boys’ club, even when it has nothing to do with old boys.

Tinatawag itong fiducia ng mga Italyano. Tinutukso ito ng mga Aleman bilang Vitamin B. Tinatawag itong old boys’ club ng mga Amerikano, kahit walang kinalaman ito sa mga matatandang lalaki.

Different words. Same truth.

Iba’t ibang salita. Pero pareho ang katotohanan.

Across every continent. Across every century.

Sa bawat kontinente. Sa bawat siglo.
