How to Negotiate Salary Without Losing the Offer (A Filipino-Friendly Script)

"Magkano ang hinihingi mo?" The most awkward question in any interview — and the one most Filipinos answer too low.
Step 1: Research before you walk in
Use ReferNation's salary insights, JobStreet, and Glassdoor PH to find the median for your role and YOE. Bring a number range, not a single figure.
Step 2: Anchor with your range, not theirs
"Based on my research and 4 years of experience, I'm targeting ₱55,000-65,000. Open to discuss the full package, including HMO and 13th month." Notice: range, justification, package framing.
Step 3: Silence is your friend
After you say your number, stop talking. The first person to break silence usually concedes. Filipino instinct says fill the gap with "pero kahit ano lang okay na" — resist that urge.
Step 4: If they low-ball
"I appreciate the offer. Given my experience and the scope of the role, I was hoping for something closer to ₱X. Is there flexibility on base, signing bonus, or review timeline?"
Negotiation isn't walang utang na loob. It's the start of a healthy professional relationship.
